Aaniin, my name is Roxane Shawana, from Wikwemikoong Unceded Territory on beautiful Manitoulin Island. In my role, at Conestoga College, as the Indigenous Student Recruiter, I help prospective students learn more about post secondary education and the programs, pathways and services that are offered at Conestoga. As a first generation learner and Alumni of Conestoga College, I’m proud to be able to provide this service to prospective students, guidance, parents and community of the Kitchener Waterloo Region and surrounding areas. As an Alumni of Conestoga, who pursued an advanced diploma in Business Administration, I enjoy sharing my experiences with our future generations. I have been working as a Student Recruiter, at Conestoga College for more than a decade. Currently I am serving as the Marketing Chair for the Aboriginal Post-Secondary Information Program (APSIP) and have been and APSIP member for 10 years. I enjoy sharing and exploring the possibilities which furthering your education can provide. A Strategic View of Indigenous Student Recruitment with the Aboriginal Post-Secondary Information Program (APSIP)
2:30 - 3:15An overview of the Aboriginal Post-Secondary Information Program. The evolution from an informal grassroots group of Indigenous recruitment officers to a non-competitive formalized group over the past decade. This presentation will highlight how APSIP has pivoted to an online virtual tour during the pandemic. It will also explore how we will integrate these new skills to maintain and promote our community connections throughout the year with Indigenous Learners, Educators and Community Education Advocates.
